Abstract
Starting point und purpose of the present paper is to link broad sociological and narrow instrumental perspectives in relation to evaluation practices in the cultural sector. By combining insights into a “sociology of valuation” and concepts of “neo-institutionalism” with the specific empirical framework of a certification system for museums in Lower Saxony and Bremen, the aim is to outline a possible research design for the in-depth analysis of formalized evaluation practices in the cultural sector. Modes of evaluation are thereby revealed to be far more versatile than is often assumed. Rather than desired professionalization or feared standardization, it instead appears that “we coexist in a world filled with standards but not in a standardized world.” In light of the current efforts being made toward achieving a “concept-based cultural policy” and “criteria-based cultural funding,” a differentiated examination of evaluation practices in the cultural sector appears to be a relevant area of research in the field of cultural administration.

Abstract
The Bundesvision Song Contest (BSC), an annual Germany-wide music competition and television show, offers a unique opportunity to closely analyze not only musical performances but also voting behaviors in national contests.
This paper presents an empirical study that outlines and analyzes voting patterns and biases in the BSC from the first contest in 2005 to 2015. It is generally assumed that the quality of the artistic performance is the key contributing factor for success and therefore for winning the contest. However, a quantitative analysis reveals other factors that explain the victory of a particular German state as well as additional variables that influence the voting behavior of German voters. Moreover, with the help of this empirical analysis, reliable assertions can be made about the relationship between German states.
The key finding of the study is that voting in the BSC is influenced in particular by geographical and cultural affinities.

Abstract
The availability and omnipresence of digital media opened up new possibilities within cultural management. In recent years there has been a noticeable trend in the cultural industry to develop appropriate apps for interacting with customers – also on site, which enables the customer to be integrated in the creation of service. Against this background, the paper focuses on an app from the field of popular music, specifically the function “Mobile Light Show” on the official app of pop singer Helene Fischer, which enables concertgoers to become actively involved in the dramaturgy of the concert. By aligning a smartphone display towards the stage, the color and brightness of the phone display are controlled by the acoustic signals of the music. This paper outlines the theoretical framework of customer experience management (CEM) and discusses how this particular function of the app offers new opportunities for CEM as a co-creation process in the context of live music concerts. The particular relevance of the presented app function for CEM is its ability to shape an element of the show that is normally not influenced by concertgoers.

Abstract
The city of Innsbruck has a high proportion of residents with migration backgrounds. For this reason, a multi-part empirical study with the working title “Cultural participation by migrants in Innsbruck” was carried out as a practical project by students at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol (Master’s program in Sports, Culture and Event Management), in the summer semester 2014 and winter semester 2014/15. The study was supervised by professors and conducted at the request of the Cultural Office of the City of Innsbruck. Based on the key findings of this study, this paper begins by explaining the current situation in Austria, as well as the limitations of applying research from Germany to Austria on a 1:1 basis. Furthermore, the study examines the relationship between integration and intercultural discourse and the possible roles of cultural institutions in this field of tension. Language awareness and structural changes, among other things, are then presented as ways of initiating new approaches and possible overarching measures.

Abstract
Despite the extant research on entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and its performance consequences, cultural industries have been under researched. In our paper, we examine the impact of the Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) on performance as well as performance deviation from industry average in art galleries. The findings of our exploratory study based on responses from 113 art galleries in Istanbul showing that EO improves performance only in galleries with above industry average performance. We further find that the relationship between EO and performance deviation of galleries is U-shaped.
