Zweifellos spielen die Künste innerhalb jeglicher Art von Kulturmanagement eine zentrale Rolle, da sich Kulturmanagement primär auf die Entfaltung künstlerischer und kultureller Angebote bezieht und weil darüber hinaus die Eigenlogiken von Kunst und Kultur auch das Management für Kunst und Kultur bestimmen. Kulturmanagement kann daher nur bedingt mit kommerziellen betriebswirtschaftlichen Tech niken und Strategien arbeiten, sondern muss vielmehr seinem spezifischen Gegenstandsbereich folgen, der sich in besonderer Weise durch Autonomie, Emotionalität, Komplexität, Mehrdeutigkeit und Zweckfreiheit auszeichnet.
